4

Plattsburgh

Women's Preview

1

St. Lawrence

1st

The Saints return 5 of the top 7 including 2 top 15 NCAA finishers in National Champion Wendy Pavlus and Jenna Hulton along with Meg Derby who improved steadily last fall and finished 40th at NCAA’s.  We should also have improved depth with returning  14 first-year women coming in.

2

Geneseo

2nd

The Blue Knights return 4 of 7 from the '09 runner-up regional team.  However, the traditionally deep team has a plethora of key returners that should keep them near the top of the region.  NCAA steeple qualifier Marissa Liberati will likely lead the way.  Another quality recruiting class will immediately fill in the gaps.

3

NYU

3rd

The Violets made a huge leap forward in '09 and lost no one to graduation.  However, #1 & #4 (Joan Kanarkawicz and Kerra Vick) and studying abroad this fall.  They do return thew rest of the top 8 including Kirsten Keller and Maeve Evans.  A big freshman group, led by Emily Cousens (11:10 3200 from New Hampshire) will help team contend for another NCAA berth.

4

Plattsburgh

6th

No report.  The Cardinals return 6 of top 7, only losing #1 Jenny Schaffhouser.  They will be led by NCAA 10K qualifier Stefanie Braun. Transfer Amanda Schermerhorn (4:45 1500) will add instant help.

5

Ithaca

4th

No report.  The Bombers return 4 of the top 7 from the '09 team that was 4th in the Region, including 6th place finisher Jennifer Randall.  If Kate Leugers (36:14 10K last spring) who didn't run XC last fall competes, Ithaca gets exponentially better.

6

Cortland

8th

The Red Dragons return 5 of the top 7 including NCAA provisional 10K qualifiers Alyson Dalton and Kristin Vespa. Caitlin Sullivan who sat out '09 XC with an injury also returns.  A solid recruiting class will help out a lot.

7

Rensselaer

5th

The Engineers return 3 of the top 7 including sophomore Marie Ferro.  Kathryn Markowitz (36th in '08 Regional) returns from studying away last fall.
In addition, we have several new athletes who are expected to be in contention for top 5 team spots.

10

Rochester

9th

The Yellow Jackets return 4 of the top 7 this fall.  The new recruiting class should replace the graduating seniors.  Lauren Norton (12th at '09 Regional) is back after a spring layoff and finally healthy after going to NCAA’s as both a freshman and sophomore.  Meg O’Connor (#2 ) is back and ran pr’s in all her track events last spring.  Hillary Snyder (Jr.) and Zarah Quinn (So.) will fill in the next 2 spots.
