Eros & the Jews: Reading the Rabbis in Bed

1) Living in the Garden of the Song: On the erotic, the religious & the visual

2) “The Evil Impulse is Very Good”:

3) Representing the Forbidden:
The Jewish Body in Art

Sex and art are both topics that have the potential to be taboo in traditionally observant Jewish contexts. Yet both are essential in terms of accessing the spiritual—the closest of human connections is understood both metaphorically and sometimes literally to mirror the yearning of the imminent, the human, for the transcendent and the divine. And though God cannot be imaged, the visionary, paradoxically, is at the very center of the Jewish mystical experience. How is sex related to the visual, and how are both related to the deepest and highest levels of spiritual connection?
