Harry Potter’s universe has exposed many readers to creatures from the medieval Books of Beasts, from hippogriffs to basilisks. What you may not realize is that many of these creatures— so familiar from pagan and Christian lore—are also a deep and central part of Jewish life, lore, literature and, of course, art.
