The following brief chronology of the life of the historical Pocahontas is adapted from Sharon Larkins, "Using Trade Books to Teach Pocahontas" (Georgia Social Sciences Journal Vol. 19, fig . 1 , (1988): 21-25).
1. Her birth about 1595.
2. The traditional story of her rescue of Captain John Smith (the winter of 1607-1608), and her continued relationship with him and help to the people of Jamestown.
3. Her abduction by Captain Samuel Argall in 1612 and subsequent captivity at Jamestown.
4. Her conversion to the Christian faith (1613?).
5. Her marriage to John Rolfe (1614) and the birth of their son Thomas (1615).
6. Her trip to England in 1616, where she was well-received at the court of King James I and Queen Anne, attended "The Vision of Delight," the Twelfth Night masque staged by Ben Jonson, and sat for the Simon Van de Passe engraving of her portrait.
7. Her death and burial at Gravesend in 1617 (age 22?).
