The Jewish World in Late Roman Antiquity

When we visit the Getty Villa, we see a sumptuous feast for the eyes and mind, a panoply of late antique aesthetic splendor. But this is also the backdrop against which much of the drama of the period described in the Talmud and rabbinic literature occurred. We will tour the Getty with Talmud in hand, bringing to life the settings and contexts of the material culture of Jewish life in late Roman antiquity.
