A political, economic, and semiotic interpretation of Hooter's Restaurant

Welcome. The following pages focus on a wide-reaching analysis of the Hooters Restaurant chain. Jointly researched and collaborated, the investigation is separated into three analyses; 1. Political economy essay: A description of the history and factors behind the construction and operation of Hooters as a themed space. Included in this essay are place interpretations, protest histories, and other important economic and political factors that surround the restaurant. 2. Semiotic essay: Focused on how Hooters is "read" and interpreted. Hooters represents 'access and participation' to some users and poisonous consumption to others. Thus the space takes on a distinct and delicate identity within the American consumer market place. 3. Synthesis and Concluding essay: Ties together our understanding of Hooters Restaurant Franchise as a themed space. Relates our findings to urban theory and identity.
