Pandemic semester format
| By unanimous agreement of the Sociology Department, instructors may shift this course to an entirely remote format as conditions related to the pandemic, the college, and our learning change. Currently, my plan is for this course to alternate between in-person classroom sessions and remote Zoom sessions. |
| One day a week (usually Tuesdays), we'll meet in person during scheduled class time at Olmstead Hall 266, which has been set up to accommodate 17 spatially distanced students and myself. Everyone must wear masks before entering the room. While the in-person format will take advantage of spatial proximity and immersive face-to-face communication, these sessions will always be projected and recorded on Zoom for students who can't join us in person. |
| The other day a week (usually Thursdays), we'll meet on Zoom during regularly scheduled class times. These remote meetings will set aside time for large-class discussion and occasional lecture, but typically students will break up at some point into smaller groups to discuss readings or read/comment on each other's writing. This Zoom session (specifically the large-class section) will also be recorded. |
| In a nutshell: Tuesdays will generally be "lecture" days in the classroom, and Thursdays will generally be "discussion" days on Zoom. |
