51-60

60. David Bowie - Heathen
I suppose it's not saying much to call this Bowie's best album since 1993's Black Tie White Noise. But in the wake of 9/11, the Thin White Duke's surprising humility and humanity as he grows old were rather comforting.

59. Keren Ann - La Disparition

58. Pépé Bradock - Confiote De Bits: A Remix Collection
Really, I ranked this album just to acknowledge the greatest (if least prolific) French house DJ; in the 00s, his 1999 track "Deep Burnt" acheived anthem status in underground dance music clubs. Until his own recordings get anthologized, this remix compilation is the best introduction to his deft touch.

57. Sparks - Hello Young Lovers

56. Endless Boogie - Executive Level
Somewhere in a Brooklyn rehearsal space, four paunchy middle-aged men unlocked the zen mysteries of two-chord Southern boogie. Their lesson went largely ignored.

55. Jerome Sydenham & Kerri Chandler - Saturday
That rarest of creatures: a full length, all-killer-no-filler album of deep house music that isn't a mix.

54. various artists - Velvet Tinmine
Technically, none of the music on this CD was recorded in the 00s. But this was the decade I discovered the great re-issues and anthologies put out by RPM Records, the most revelatory of which was this shot of obscure 70s British glam rock.

53. Hot Chip - The Warning

52. Marianne Faithfull - Easy Come, Easy Go
Another old rocker who put out nothing but great records this decade.

51. Annie - Anniemal
Like we needed Norwegian hipsters to let us accept our love of Kylie Minogue! But sure, I'll bite.
