T his website was created in the hopes of sheding light on an archaeological pheonmenon. Archaeological thought and technique constantly change with shifts in cultural ideas and technologicl innovations. As we have seen, both Garstang and Kenyon's interprations were greatly influended by the philosophies and practices of their day, and more specifically, their religious world-views.
A critique of archaeological interpretation is the main objective of the site, and the details of excavation and discovery are included mostly as a background to this. The finds mentioned here are by no means complete or comprehensive; most were omitted if they had no bearing on our discussion. For more complete resources on the Jericho excavations, please see the bibliography for this site.
